The energy exchange receives its license – After 2 postponements, ERE gives approval for the 5-year operation of the electricity market

After it was postponed two times, the Energy Regulatory Body has licensed the Albanian Energy Exchange to operate of the electricity market. This license will have a duration of 5 years. The decision was taken at the last meeting of the Board, after completing the documents that were necessary for its operation.
The energy exchange is expected to start its operations in November for the day-advance market, while in January 2023 it is expected to begin trading for the Kosovo market and the merge of Albania and Kosovo markets. Also, it is predicted that in December 2023, on the same day electricity trading will start for the Albanian market, and two months later, the markets will be merged on the same day for both markets.
The establishment of the energy exchange is responsible for the listing of electricity producers, which will increase competition and facilitate the purchase of energy from all liberalized businesses that provide the necessary amount of energy.
Its establishment has exceeded any legal deadline, while the operation of this instrument has an even more special significance, because January 1 of this year marked the entry into the free market for about 7,500 businesses. The representatives of these businesses criticized the release to the free market without meeting the conditions that the market must meet, such as the energy exchange.
