AKU: Urea fertilizer on the market complies with standards, analyses refute

The National Food Authority (AKU) has announced that the inorganic fertilizer product Urea marketed in Albania is registered and in compliance with legal standards, after a series of checks carried out throughout the country.

The inspections were undertaken following complaints and allegations of the marketing of Urea fertilizer with a lower nitrogen content than that declared on the label, as well as doubts about the content, color, and registration of the product.

According to the AKU, inspections were conducted on entities that deal with the import, storage, and wholesale and retail trade of this product. During the inspections, a total of 15 samples were taken, which were sent for analysis to the fertilizer products laboratory at the Agricultural Technology Transfer Center (QTTB) in Fushë-Krujë.

The results of the analyses showed that all samples comply with legal requirements. The nitrogen percentage was in accordance with that declared on the label, while the physical indicators of shape, content and color were evaluated according to the standards set out in the legislation in force.

The AKU emphasizes that it will continue field inspections to guarantee the safety of agricultural products and calls on farmers to report any suspected cases of abuse of agricultural inputs.
