Rama: We doubled economic support for 11 thousand young people with disabilities

Prime Minister Edi Rama declared today that 11,000 children and young people with disabilities will benefit from the government's decision to double economic support.
Together with the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Evis Sala, Prime Minister Edi Rama held a conversation today at the "Jonathan" Social Center, on the doubling of economic support for children and young people with disabilities, as well as new health and social guarantees for their caregivers.
"With much love and hope, we chose this place to speak a little more broadly about the decision taken a few weeks ago, when the government doubled support for all children with special needs," said Rama.
According to him, "for a long time, support for these children had become truly inadequate."
"Not that it is sufficient, but it had become truly insufficient, taking into account the cost of living and other difficulties. We promised to double the support for them and today it is a reality," said Rama.
Rama also touched on the decision to pay health and social insurance for their caregivers.
"A mother who is dedicated to a child with special needs finds it impossible to work normally. Since she cannot go to work, she faces the problem of lack of social and health insurance, which unfairly affects her ability to receive a well-deserved pension tomorrow, or to have access to the health system as she should," said Rama.
Therefore, the Prime Minister emphasized that the state budget will pay social and health insurance for all mothers, just as if they were working.
"It is important to understand that we are never outside of reality, and we are not indifferent to the constant demands coming from social groups. We are here to do more and not to rest on our laurels of undeniable achievements and successes in many directions," said Rama.
The Prime Minister assured that Albania has a reliable social protection system because it is now more functional, more efficient and faster.
"What is achieved is something that becomes the past and the future is not in function of the past. We need the past to not forget where we started, because whoever does not have in mind where they started is unable to reach where they want to. But on the other hand, we live in a time when more and more people in this new phase of development have expectations and are faced with them," Rama added.
