Prices "cross" the European border in April/ Inflation reaches 2.6%, with the greatest impact from the entertainment sector

The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, which measures price increases according to the methodology of the 'European Statistical Agency', in April 2025 was recorded at 2.6%, thus establishing a higher rate, compared to March of the same year. On the other hand, inflation according to 'INSTAT' for the same period was 2.3%. We emphasize that the measurement methodology is the same with both methods, but the differences between these two measurements come as a result of the weight given to each group of products in the calculation of inflation.
Official data shows that the average inflation in Europe is estimated at 2.4% and Albania is seen positioned above this limit for the month of April, which means that currently prices in our country are higher than the European average. Meanwhile, on the other hand, the countries with the highest price rate in Europe during April of this year are Romania with 4.9%, Estonia with 4.4% as well as Hungary and Serbia with 4.2% and 4.1% respectively.
If we analyze price increases by countries in the region, the figures show that Albania is positioned relatively well compared to some of its neighbors in the region, including Kosovo, where for the month of April it recorded a price increase rate of 3%.
Meanwhile, if we talk about the annual change in groups, we see that the largest price increase of 8.2% is observed in the "Entertainment and culture" group, followed by the "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" groups with 3.8%. An increase is also noted in the "Hotels, cafes and restaurants" group with 3.1%.
On the other hand, prices in the "Transport" group decreased by 1.7%.
