In four months, over 2.5 million foreign arrivals/ Southern Europe dominates tourism in the country, accounting for about 70% of the total

After a weak start to the year in terms of foreign national arrivals, April has confirmed the continuation of tourism growth, thus signaling the start of the season. According to data published by INSTAT, over 1.6 million Albanian and foreign citizens entered the Albanian territory during April, with an increase of 8.8% compared to the same period last year.
Although the growth rate is somewhat lower than in March, when arrivals increased by 11.7%, April has maintained high flows and has consolidated the positive trend of recent months. This shows that Albania continues to be an attractive destination for foreign tourists, while the movements of Albanians abroad and within the country remain high.
According to statistics, the arrivals of foreign citizens increased by 8.8%, while those of Albanian citizens by 8.7%. In parallel, the departures from the Albanian territory also increased by about 8%, reflecting a general intensification of traffic on the eve of the summer season.
The analysis by region shows that the majority of tourists continue to come from Southern Europe, which accounts for 74% of arrivals from the European continent. Meanwhile, Western Europe contributes 11% of arrivals, remaining an important market for Albanian tourism.
The data also shows that the main purpose of entries into Albania remains tourism and personal travel. In 98% of cases, foreign nationals entered for personal reasons, such as holidays, family visits or non-professional activities. This indicator increased by 9.2% compared to April of the previous year. On the other hand, entries for business and professional purposes decreased by 4.7%, indicating that the current growth is mainly supported by tourism and not by business travel.
In total, during the first four months of the year, foreign arrivals in Albania exceeded 2.5 million, marking an increase of 5.1% compared to the same period in 2025.
