Over half of the employed in Albania, "manual labor"/ Agriculture, industry and construction hold the main weight
Data from INSTAT show that around 57% of employees in Albania are engaged in sectors that are mainly related to physical labor, or as it is otherwise known, "manual labor".
This grouping includes agriculture, manufacturing, construction, mining, energy, gas and water supply. Together, these sectors represent 57.1% of total employment, meaning that more than one in two employees in the country works in sectors where physical strength still remains a significant component of work.
Agriculture holds the largest share, employing 36.7% of the employed. Manufacturing follows, with 10.1%, while construction accounts for 7.9% of employment. The remaining 2.4% are engaged in the extractive industries, energy, gas and water supply.
Translated into numbers, out of about 1.17 million employees in the country, approximately 672 thousand people work in sectors that can be classified as manual labor.
Meanwhile, in addition to sectors directly related to physical labor, a significant portion of the employed are concentrated in the service sector. Data show that 42.8% of the employed are engaged in service-related activities, making this sector a major player in the employment structure.
However, this calculation should be read with caution. Not every job within these sectors is necessarily manual labor, as there are also administrative, technical, or managerial positions within them. But, overall, the structure shows that the Albanian economy continues to rely heavily on traditional sectors and manual labor.
