In which region are the most males born? In Albania, 107 males are born for every 100 females.

Albania has been facing a significant population decline for years, a phenomenon that has become increasingly evident in the statistical reports published by official institutions. This negative trend is the result of a combination of factors, two of the most important of which are massive emigration and a decline in the birth rate. The number of births has decreased significantly, causing the natural increase of the population to be increasingly lower.
But beyond the decline in the overall number of births, an equally interesting and significant aspect is the distribution of births by region and the gender ratio between males and females. According to the data, the region with the highest number of births in the country was Tirana, where 8,893 births were registered. This is in line with the fact that Tirana is the most populated area of Albania and the main urban center.
Another element that draws attention is the sex ratio at birth, that is, how many males are born for every 100 females. In Albania, according to official data, an average of 107 males are born for every 100 females. The Lezha region turns out to have the highest sex ratio in the country, with 117 males for every 100 females born.
After Lezha, a high number of male births has also been registered in the Vlora region. Meanwhile, the Dibra region ranks third in this regard, where for every 100 girls, 116 boys are born. In contrast, Gjirokastra is the only region in Albania where more girls are born than boys.
Meanwhile, according to INSTAT data, the gender ratio of the total population for 2025 is estimated at 97.8 males per 100 females. This is due to several reasons, such as higher male emigration and higher life expectancy among females.
