Italy cannot stop price increases - Gasoline has exceeded 1.7 euros per liter,

Fuel prices in Italy have continued to rise. The average price of gasoline reached 1,724 euros per liter in cities, compared to 1,672 euros on Monday, and 1,836 euros on highways, compared to 1,778 euros on Monday. Diesel prices have risen even further: 1,818 euros per liter in cities from 1,727 euros on Monday and 1,948 euros on highways from 1,727 euros on Monday. According to statistics, this is the highest level since March 2024.

Codacons (the Italian consumer protection association) has reported an increase of 2.50 euros per liter for diesel on the highway and has stressed that the reduction in excise duty could soften prices. Adoc (the Italian consumer protection association) has considered these moves as "speculation" by oil companies.

The association has sent a report to the Minister of Transport, requesting measures to curb the increase, "starting with the speculative phenomena reported" and for maximum transparency regarding the increases, which the association estimates at up to 30 cents.

The Minister of Enterprise has called two meetings of the Rapid Price Alert Commission, chaired by the Italian regulator. The first meeting will focus on the performance of the energy market, with a focus on oil products, and the second will focus on possible inflationary impacts.

With a recent instruction, fuel monitoring has been increased since the beginning of the week and initial findings have been forwarded to the Guardia di Finanza. The regulator has also asked the main oil companies for clarification on recent price changes, in particular the rapid price increases.
