Fuels with new rules after 20 years - Only those that meet the standards will be

After almost two decades, North Macedonia is taking new steps to regulate the quality of liquid fuels. The government has adopted a new Regulation on the Quality of Liquid Fuels, which will allow only fuels that meet the established standards to be placed on the domestic market, and will also introduce stricter mechanisms for controlling their quality.

The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Mineral Resources says that this new decree replaces the regulation that was in force for almost 19 years, and is part of the implementation of the new Energy Law.

The regulation determines which types of liquid fuels can be sold on the domestic market, what quality standards they must meet, how their control will be carried out, and what are the obligations of all participants in the crude oil, oil derivatives and transport fuels market.

One of the most important innovations is the establishment of equal rules for all companies, which is expected to minimize the space for abuse and unfair competition.

The new regulation sets out clear and modern rules on which liquid fuels can be placed on the domestic market, how their quality is determined and how compliance will be monitored. For citizens, this means greater certainty that the fuels they use will meet the set standards, and through clearly defined rules and control mechanisms, consumer protection is further strengthened. The Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, assessed that the new regulation represents an important reform that finally replaces outdated regulations.
