"Milot-Balldre, in the final phase" - Karakaçi: We will announce the winner of the concession by the beginning of June
The process for selecting the company that will build the Milot - Balldre road axis is nearing completion, and it is expected that the winning entity of the contract will be announced by the end of May or beginning of June.
Enea Karakaçi, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy:
"The Milot-Balldren road has gone through several unsuccessful stages. The Albanian government has been willing for years to develop it as a category A highway, and that would relieve traffic, that would connect, let's say, Kosovo, but also the parts of the north with the central and southern parts of Albania, and as... to also relieve the tourist areas of Shëngjin and Velipoja. Of course, like any infrastructure project, as there are, let's say, infrastructure projects that move faster on time or at the right time, at the right pace, this infrastructure project has not moved at the right pace. What I can say is that: yes, it is an open concession procedure, we are in the bid evaluation phase. To my knowledge, the commission is in the final phase and it is expected that very soon, by the end of May or the beginning of June, we will announce a winner for the Milot-Balldren road. What is important to emphasize is that: "Yes, the Milot-Balldren road will be built. It will be a category A road, there will be alternative routes that offer citizens passage under the same conditions that they currently pass through, but it will definitely follow a relevant legal route as regulated by the concession framework in Albania."
