Taxes give parents a second chance: Reapply for educational expense reimbursement
Individuals whose request for compensation from the deduction of educational expenses for children has been rejected, due to the lack of fiscalized invoices, will have the opportunity to reapply and benefit from the scheme, if they complete the required documentation.
The Tax Administration has begun notifying applicants whose files were not approved during the verification process because tax invoices proving the declared expenses for children's education were not uploaded.
According to official explanations, the first rejection of the application does not mean the loss of the right to compensation. Any individual who has the relevant fiscalized invoices can submit a new request, following the procedures established by the Regional Tax Directorates and uploading the supporting documentation to the system.
The Tax Administration emphasizes that fiscalized invoices are a necessary condition for the approval of expense deductions, in accordance with the legislation in force on personal income tax.
This scheme benefits individuals with a gross annual income of up to 1.2 million lek and who have dependent children. In addition to the taxable deduction of 48 thousand lek for each child under the age of 18, they can also benefit from a deduction for education expenses of up to 100 thousand lek, provided that these expenses are documented with the relevant invoices.
According to the administration's calculations, the total benefit for families that meet both criteria could reach up to around 250 euros.
Meanwhile, at the end of May, the tax refund process began for individuals who have declared dependent children in the Annual Individual Income Tax Return (DIVA) for 2025.
Official data shows that 34,263 individuals have benefited from this process, while the total amount returned in their favor amounts to 517.7 million lekë.
The Tax Administration announces that its structures are providing assistance to citizens who need to reapply, helping them complete the documentation and correctly upload fiscalized invoices into the system.
