Food remains expensive/ Fish and meat with the strongest price increase

Tensions in the Middle East have begun to be reflected in the Albanian market, mainly through increased transportation costs, keeping the prices of food and basic consumer products high. The rise in fuel prices in international markets has increased import and supply costs, an effect that is gradually being transmitted to the final consumer.
The increase in food prices continues to directly affect the budgets of Albanian families. According to INSTAT data, the group "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" increased by 1.3% in April, while food as a whole increased by 1.2%.
The strongest impact was made by fish and seafood products, which became more expensive by 6.5%, recording the highest increase in the entire food group.
Meat prices also remain on the rise, rising by 3.1%, while fresh, chilled or frozen meat is 3.2% more expensive than a year ago. Oils and fats also remain at high levels, with an increase of 3.1%, while non-alcoholic beverages became more expensive by 2.8%.
Experts link this situation to rising transportation and energy costs in global markets, following geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have directly impacted the supply chain and import prices.
On the other hand, some products have shown slight price decreases. Vegetables fell by 0.7%, while cereals and cereal-based products decreased by 0.2%.
