In just one year, 23,850 new tax debtors – There are over 192 thousand businesses with unpaid obligations
In a period of 12 months, the list of businesses that are in debt because of taxes has increased by 23,850 new entities, bringing the total amount of uncollected liabilities to a new record. These data are published in the new report from the High State Control, which during the first months of this year audited the General Directorate of Taxes.
From this audit, KLSH has determined that the unpaid obligations at the beginning of 2021 were represented by the value of 122.4 billion Lek, which belonged to a total of 168,851 debtor entities. Meanwhile, at the end of 2021, these obligations were 134.9 billion Lek, or over 1.1 billion euros, which belonged to 192,701 debtors.
By comparing the debt situation at the end of 2021 with the one at the beginning of this year, there is a noticeable increase of about 12.5 billion Lek, or 120 million dollars, in unpaid obligations. On the other hand, the number of debtors added has grown by 23,850 since the end of the year.
Compared to a year ago (when the net increase in liabilities from 01.01.2020 to 21.12.2020 was about 5.4 billion Lek and 17,609 debtor entities), this increase is significant, both in terms of the value of unpaid liabilities as well as in the number of debtor entities, concludes the High State Control.
The Supreme State Audit recommends in the final report that the DPT, in cooperation with the debt collection structures near the DRTs, take measures and play a more active role in monitoring the debt collection activity as well as taking concrete measures using all the legal instruments provided for the reduction of the tax debt.
