"There is no project for Zvërnec yet" - Ibrahimaj: Every investment will be subject to EU standards

The Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, stated that the Albanian government supports the development of the tourism project in the Zvërnec area, but emphasized that so far there is no final project and that each proposal will be evaluated based on environmental standards and applicable legislation.
In a statement to the media after the Council of Ministers meeting, Ibrahimaj announced that the work is currently in the study and design phase, involving architects, environmental impact specialists and landscape experts.
According to her, the government does not yet have a final project for the development of the area, while any proposal that will be presented will be subject to a full analysis by the responsible institutions and the environmental impact assessment process.
The Minister emphasized that the development of the project will only be allowed if all European Union standards for environmental protection are respected, recalling that Albania is in the process of accession negotiations and is harmonizing its legislation with the European acquis.
Ibrahimaj added that the government aims to attract strategic investments that, in addition to the economic impact, bring new standards to the tourism sector and improve Albania's image as a tourist destination.
Commenting on the previously mentioned value of 4 billion euros regarding the investment, the minister explained that it belonged to a previous project, which was not approved by the National Council for Territory and Water, as it did not meet the criteria for construction intensity and environmental protection.
She emphasized that it is currently not possible to determine the value of the investment that may be made in the future, as there is still no final project.
In conclusion, Ibrahimaj underlined that nature conservation remains a priority for both the government and potential investors, emphasizing that the natural values of Zvërnec are the main reason that make the area attractive for the development of quality tourism.
