Albania "wins" the visitor race with Kosovo/ Attracting more visits to structures, the flow peaked in May
Albania has welcomed significantly more visitors from Kosovo than Kosovo from Albania during the first five months of 2026. Data processed from monthly reports by INSTAT and the Kosovo Agency of Statistics show that the difference between the two countries amounts to approximately 37 thousand visitors.
From January to May, around 88.7 thousand visitors from Kosovo were accommodated in hotels, guesthouses and other tourist structures in Albania. In the opposite direction, accommodation structures in Kosovo registered around 51.9 thousand visitors from Albania.
The flow of visitors from Kosovo to Albania has been increasing throughout the period. In January, around 11.2 thousand visitors were registered, in February 12.3 thousand and in March 13 thousand. The growth accelerated in April, with around 22 thousand visitors, while the peak was reached in May, with over 30.2 thousand.
During May alone, Kosovo accounted for around 11% of all non-resident visitors who stayed in Albania, ranking behind Italy and ahead of Germany. In total, Albanian accommodation structures hosted 274,967 non-resident visitors during this month.
A different trend is observed for visitors from Albania to Kosovo. The highest number was recorded in January, with around 17.4 thousand visitors, while in February it fell to 10.8 thousand. The lowest level was recorded in March, with around 7.5 thousand visitors, to increase slightly in April and to drop again to around 7.9 thousand during May.
The figures show that, at least in registered accommodation structures, Albania remains a more frequented destination by Kosovo citizens than Kosovo by visitors to Albania. Geographical proximity, the coast and the increase in travel on the eve of the summer season seem to have influenced the widening of the difference, especially during April and May.
We emphasize that the data on visitors from Kosovo to Albania are calculated based on the total number of non-resident visitors and the share of visitors from Kosovo in each month. For this reason, the figures are approximate, as the percentages published by INSTAT are rounded.
