1780 businesses started their activity in March - Tirana dominates, retail trade remains the most preferred sector

1,780 new entities were registered for the first time during March in the country, reflecting an increase in business activity.
According to official data from the National Business Center (NBC), compared to March 2025, when 1565 new businesses were registered, an increase of about 13.7% is noted.
The geographical structure continues to be dominated by Tirana with 986 entities, followed by Vlora, Durrës and Fier, confirming the concentration of economic activity in urban and coastal areas. In terms of ownership, businesses with 100% Albanian capital constitute the main part with 1,562 entities, but entities with foreign and joint capital also continue to grow.
The most widespread legal form remains the natural person with 1,291 registrations, followed by limited liability companies (482), reflecting a typical structure of small and medium-sized enterprises in the country.
Regarding sectors, the main activities where new registrations are concentrated are wholesale and retail trade (386 entities); accommodation and food service activities (261 entities), professional, scientific and technical activities (180 entities), information and communication (173 entities) and construction (159 entities).
An important indicator remains the participation of women in business, where during March 2026, 568 entities managed by women were registered, reflecting their increasing involvement in economic activity.
In the Register of Permits and Licenses, a total of 179 permits and licenses have been registered, of which 153 licenses and 26 permits. The health services sector, transport activities and tourism continue to have the main weight in this register.
Meanwhile, 505 entities have been registered in the Beneficial Owners Registry, reflecting the continuation of the transparency process and compliance with international standards for identifying real ownership.
In total, during March 2026, 11,784 applications were registered in the three registers, which represents a high volume of administrative activity and an increase compared to March 2025.
These data confirm a sustainable development of entrepreneurship in Albania, as well as the role of the Central Bank in facilitating procedures, increasing transparency and supporting the formalization of the economy.
