Fuel prices get another reduction - Transparency Board publishes new prices

The Transparency Board has published new ceiling prices for fuels in the country, imposing further reductions in the price of diesel and gasoline in the domestic market.

According to the decision taken at the meeting on May 21, 2026, the maximum retail price for SSH EN 590 standard diesel has been set at 197 lek per liter, while the wholesale price is set at 185 lek per liter.

Meanwhile, for standard SSH EN gasoline, the maximum retail price has been set at 186 lek per liter, while the wholesale price is set at 174 lek per liter.

The Board announces that the new prices have entered into force today, May 21, at 13:00 and will remain in force until the next meeting, when new fluctuations in international markets will be reflected.

The authorities have drawn the attention of wholesale and retail operators of petroleum by-products to the mandatory implementation of the decision, warning that in case of violations, the suspension of activity will be imposed.

In an additional clarification, the Board emphasizes that the current prices are below the limits set by Normative Act No. 1, dated April 3, 2026, which provides for the reduction of the excise duty to 80% only when the price of diesel exceeds 220 lek/liter or gasoline 200 lek/liter. Because the new prices are below these levels, the excise duty will continue to be applied at the full rate, 100%.

According to the responsible institutions, the decision aims to protect consumers and guarantee fair competition in the fuel market.
