Consumption increases by 89 million euros/6 months, the budget collected 443 million euros from internal VAT

The first half of the year has closed with a significant increase in consumption in the country. Albanian citizens but also foreign tourists have shown a tendency to spend more on products and services during the period January-June 2026.
Official data from the Ministry of Finance show that revenues from Value Added Tax are the item with the most positive performance, among all other items that supply the state treasury.
Specifically, revenues from VAT collected (net), which is a measure of domestic consumption in the country, were realized in the amount of 41.6 billion lek or 443 million euros, or in other words, 8.4 billion lek or 89 million euros more. Expressed in percentage terms, the increase results in 25.4% more than in the first half of 2025.
Likewise, the Value Added Tax records a realization of 6.3 billion lek or 17.9% more than the plan for the first half of 2026.
The reimbursements granted for the period January-June 2026 amount to 7.9 billion lek.
Among the factors that have influenced this performance is the gradual increase in the number of tourists in our country, who, in addition to the interest in coastal areas, have had an increased interest in urban, historical and mountainous areas, which are not necessarily associated with the summer period. Given that low-cost airlines offer cheap ticket prices, various agencies organize guided tours for tourists. Weather conditions have also been favorable, causing tourism to produce high consumption in all seasons.
Meanwhile, another factor that has influenced this positive revenue performance has been the reform of salaries in the administration, for a number of categories that are paid from the state budget, thus giving citizens many opportunities to spend. This reform has also put the private sector in motion by indirectly encouraging wage movements, causing the average salary to increase nationwide, which has also led to increased consumption.
On the other hand, a more stabilized inflation rate throughout this year has been reflected in more consumption.
