Malaj: The defense budget reaches 69.2 billion lek, in fulfillment of commitments to NATO

The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, announced that Albania has significantly increased funding for the defense sector, bringing the budget to 69.2 billion lek for 2026, as part of the country's commitments as a NATO member.
According to data published by the minister, the defense budget has increased from 24.1 billion lek in 2020 to 52.6 billion lek in 2025, while this year it has reached the highest level of 69.2 billion lek.
"Albania continues to responsibly fulfill its commitments within NATO, by sustainably increasing investments in defense and security," said Malaj.
The Minister emphasized that the increase in investments has supported the modernization of the Armed Forces, the improvement of operational capacities and the strengthening of Albania's role in the collective security of the Alliance.
According to Malaj, the continued increase in defense funding reflects the priority given to national security and the fulfillment of objectives set within NATO, creating the conditions for the further development of the country's defense capacities.
