"Nature conservation does not mean non-development" - Rama: Tirana is

Tirana hosted the second edition of the “Bread&Heart” architecture festival this Thursday. Prime Minister Edi Rama, present at the event, spoke about the cooperation between nature and architecture,

" I believe in architecture, as something that goes far beyond what we see as physical presence. Architecture and nature conservation can go together. Development must be in harmony with nature. We must think about having beautiful buildings, but also nature being perfectly preserved. It seems extraordinary to me today, more than last year.

Preserving nature is not an attitude that implies or is the same as not developing. It should also be about development, not to put nature at the service of people but vice versa. Very easy to say and harder to do. I remember something that a crazy man told me who started as a successful businessman in France and continued in Latin America because he was obsessed with healing communities. He told me that sustainability is not at all correct in relation to future generations. What is correct with them is what is correct with nature, regenerative policies, a renewed attitude towards the environment. So how do we go from being sustainable to being regenerative. How do we think about cutting down a few trees here and planting a few trees there. We have to do both, and make people feel welcome in nature”, said the Prime Minister.

Among other things, the Prime Minister emphasized that world-renowned architects are increasingly choosing Tirana, becoming a reference space for urban development and contemporary architecture.

"What seems extraordinary to me today, even more than last year, is not the fact that we have a larger number of professional architects coming to this festival. But it has to do with the fact that here we do not only have a few great architects, we also have them, but architects who come from all over, from Europe to China, from the USA to Latin America ," Rama said.

The "Bread & Heart" festival brings together architects, urban planners and developers from different countries of the world in Tirana to discuss the challenges of urban development, modern architecture and the transformation of cities.
