Albania 4th in Europe for the growth of the startup ecosystem, a historic climb of 8 places in the global ranking

StartupBlink’s Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2026 ranks Albania 75th in the world with +71.1% annual growth. Albania is ranked the 4th fastest growing startup ecosystem in Europe in the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2026, according to a report published by StartupBlink, the most comprehensive global map of startup ecosystems.
Our country climbed eight places in the global ranking, to rank 75th in the world, the equal largest jump among European countries and the 3rd largest worldwide. Albania thus returns to the world's top 80 with +71.1% annual ecosystem growth, the 4th highest growth on the continent.
This result positions Albania among the countries with the strongest innovation dynamics in Europe and confirms the impact of recent reforms in the innovation and entrepreneurship sector.
The Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj herself, regarding this report, states that: Today Albania is a different story from what it was a year ago. The 4th fastest growing ranking in Europe is international confirmation that our strategy is working: public investment, deep reforms, and trust in our entrepreneurs. The Albanian ecosystem of innovation and startups is becoming a real engine of the economy. We are building an Albania where talent is offered opportunities, capital comes, and innovation accelerates economic growth.
This improvement comes after a series of measures were taken over the last 2 years, such as the establishment of the Startup Albania Agency and the consolidation of the innovation portfolio under the Ministry of Economy and Innovation.
The latest round of the agency's grant scheme in 2026 attracted a total of 1,179 startup applicants and 40 from innovation support institutions with a record 40.6% participation of women and girl-led enterprises.
The report also notes that Albania's ranking in the Business Environment Index for Innovators (60 out of 125 countries) indicates stronger fundamental business conditions than the current ecosystem results, signaling further growth potential in the coming years.
Tirana remains the only Albanian city ranked in the report. The development of startup hubs beyond the capital has been identified as a key structural priority for the next phase. Meanwhile, StartupBlink’s own Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2026 ranks 1,000 cities and 125 countries by ecosystem strength, using indicators of quantity, quality and business environment.
