Swisscontact: From business to business – Increasing the competitiveness

Representatives of business organizations, companies, institutions and development partners gathered at the roundtable discussion "Business Integration in the European Single Market: Cooperation of Business Organizations for Human Capital Development", organized by Swisscontact in collaboration with SWISSA Albania.

The activity created a space for dialogue between key stakeholders in the business ecosystem, with a focus on the challenges and opportunities that European integration brings for Albanian businesses, especially in terms of human capital development, increased competitiveness, and approximation to the standards of the European common market.

The real challenges of the private sector towards the EU The discussions focused on three main areas: the demands of the European market for Albanian businesses, the need for human capital development and the role of business organizations in providing value-added services, partnerships and joint initiatives. It was emphasized that, in the context of the advancement of the integration process, some enterprises risk being left out of the market if they do not undergo a deep structural transformation.

Participants underlined the need for increased information and awareness on the changes brought about by integration, including costs and regulatory obligations, as well as the impact that harmonization with the EU acquis will have on the functioning of businesses.

Another focus was the need for financial and technical support for this transformation, through programs and instruments that facilitate adaptation, increase capacities and promote investments in modernization. The importance of clearer and supportive industrial policies was also emphasized, as well as the role of business associations in formulating proposals to increase the competitiveness of domestic production.

Human capital was identified as a crucial factor for productivity, while skills shortages and the emigration of professionals were assessed as serious challenges for Albanian businesses, making it necessary to invest in vocational education and continuous training. The importance of learning from existing practices, continuous monitoring of policies and the use of data to improve interventions was also highlighted.

In conclusion, increasing productivity was considered a strategic priority for the Albanian economy, while the activity was assessed as the launch of a more structured dialogue to prepare the private sector towards EU integration.
