Three companies competing for the Vorë-Hani i Hotit railway - Finalists, among 16 participants. Financial bids expected to determine the winner of the contract

The competition for the rehabilitation of the Vorë - Hani i Hotit railway line has entered its final phase, as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has selected the three foreign companies that will submit technical and financial bids for the implementation of the project.
After the completion of the pre-qualification phase, the list of tender finalists includes 3 international economic operators, who will compete with their financial offers for one of the key investments in the Albanian railway sector.
Interest in the project was high from the first phase of the procedure, with 16 companies and consortia from Europe and Asia expressing interest in building the line. Among them were companies from Turkey, Italy, China and India, as well as temporary operators' associations (joint ventures), which aimed to meet the required technical and financial criteria.
According to the EBRD procedure, only companies selected on the list of finalists can submit technical and financial bids, which will serve to select the winner of the contract.
The project, with a total estimated value of 368 million euros, is co-financed by the EBRD, the European Investment Bank and a grant from the European Union. The investment envisages the rehabilitation of around 120 kilometers of existing railway, enabling operating speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, the objective remains the full completion of the railway line by 2030.
