Taxes, high-income individuals under scrutiny/ 770 thousand euros in liabilities revealed
The Tax Administration is increasing controls on individuals with high wealth and income, who are considered at increased risk for not declaring income and tax obligations.
According to data published by the General Directorate of Taxes, 129 individuals were checked during the period from 2025 to June 30, 2026.
From the audits carried out, findings with a total value of 770 thousand euros have been identified. Meanwhile, during 2026 alone, 144 new audits have been launched, which are in various stages of the audit process.
The Tax Administration aims to conduct a total of 200 audits of high-net-worth individuals by December 31, 2026. The controls focus on cases where discrepancies are identified between declared assets, expenses and income. This is the first time that the Tax Administration has focused on high-net-worth individuals. The DPT underlined that the Tax Administration continues to implement reforms for a more modern, more efficient tax administration in line with European Union standards.
