Albania registers over 100 thousand farmers - Over 12 thousand are added to the pension scheme, Fier dominates agriculture

The application of financing schemes for the agricultural sector by the Ministry of Agriculture has also encouraged formalization in this sector, as it is the main condition for obtaining funds.
Official data from the Social Security Institute shows that the number of formalized farmers has undergone a progressive increase from year to year, reaching 101,088 self-employed in agriculture who pay social security.
If we analyze the figures from 2021, where the number of contributors to agriculture was recorded at 58,091, a progressive increase is observed from year to year, to reach the highest figure in 2025, which has almost doubled compared to 2021.
Compared to the previous year, the number of formalized farmers has increased by 12,222 individuals.
According to the data, 74.5% of contributors are in lowland areas where the development of the agricultural sector is higher and 25.5% are in mountainous areas.
As for the value of contributions paid, the figure reaches 36 million euros, 79.2% generated by farmers in lowland areas and the remaining 20.8% in mountainous areas.
If we analyze the number of self-employed contributors in agriculture by region, the region with the highest number is Fier with 16% of the total, as the main region with intensive agriculture, followed by Elbasan with 13.8%, Vlora and Korça. While the lowest number of contributors is in the region of Gjirokastra and Kukës.
Over the last two years, in addition to the National Agricultural Support Scheme with a fund of 30 million euros per year, the Investment Scheme has also been applied, bringing the total budget to around 52 million euros, while the sovereign guarantee has also been put into operation, which aims to promote lending and increase farmers and agribusinesses' access to financing.
