Rama talks about fiscal and criminal amnesty: It will happen

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, has answered journalists’ questions about fiscal and criminal amnesty by declaring that it is in the consultation process but will soon be approved. According to him, nothing can stop the government from legalizing the money of Albanians.

We have not withdrawn, but we are continuing to discuss and listen to clear up all misunderstandings or even to expose the unwillingness to understand. The fiscal amnesty will take place because the majority of Albanians demand it. We are not here to penalize the Albanians, to legalize their income, or to make their lives feel like hell. And who are those that tell us it can’t be done because Albania is full of criminals? “We have done this to ourselves,” he said.

When asked about the objections from the international community, Prime Minister Rama said that Albania is ready to create the basis for an agreement with the EU. “I represent Albanians. I am not the expression of the will of any other person. I am here to mourn the plight of the Albanians. We are in discussion with everyone. We will create a basis where we can find agreement. If we are not, there is no problem, without violating the norms and principles. We have seen and studied fiscal amnesties from all EU countries. We have done nothing that goes against any framework related to EU concepts. We want to get a little more respect when they speak about Albanians’ money,” he said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the criticisms from foreigners about this draft law are not sincere because these countries have done the same thing at different times. Fiscal and criminal amnesty is a legal initiative undertaken by the Albanian government to forgive all fines and arrears of property that has been declared, if the registration of the property was carried out until the date the official law goes into power. People who apply for fiscal amnesty are kept anonymous and do not initiate criminal prosecution procedures.
