US to continue technical talks with Iran - Parties accuse each other of

The United States will engage in “technical talks” with Iran and remains committed to finding a resolution to the conflict, despite both countries launching airstrikes in recent days. President Donald Trump has made his position clear, characterizing Iran’s attacks on merchant ships as “acts of terrorism,” according to a US official.

The comments come after Trump declared at the NATO summit in Ankara that the ceasefire with Iran was over. The memorandum of understanding between the two countries is performance-based and Iran's actions constitute a "failure of performance at an unacceptable level," the US official said, adding that talks with Tehran would continue.

The ceasefire signed last month has been put under serious threat in recent days, with US and Iranian forces carrying out mutual attacks. “I don’t want to deal with Iran anymore,” Trump said at the NATO summit. However, on his return from the summit, the US president said that Iran wanted a broad agreement to stop the escalating hostilities in the Middle East.

Iranian officials have accused the United States of not respecting the Memorandum of Understanding, citing violations in the Strait of Hormuz, continued threats of attacks and the reinstatement of oil sanctions. The US military carried out new strikes against Iran in retaliation for the attack on three merchant ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. In response to the news, oil prices fell slightly on Friday, with Brent crude for September delivery trading at around $76 a barrel.
