Kosovo's trade deficit increases 16% in June/ Exports 102 million euros, only 15% of imports covered
Kosovo's trade deficit increased by 16.1 percent in June 2026, compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 578.3 million euros.
Exports covered only 15 percent of imports. According to data published by the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, exports of goods during June reached 102 million euros, marking an increase of 26.9 percent on an annual basis. Meanwhile, imports increased by 17.6 percent, reaching 680.3 million euros.
The structure of exports is dominated by base metals and their articles, which constitute 27.4 percent of the total value of exports.
Following them are prepared foods, beverages and tobacco with 12.7 percent, plastics, rubber and articles thereof with 10.6 percent, various manufactured articles with 8.7 percent and mineral products with 7.1 percent.
Regarding imports, the largest share is occupied by mineral products with 15.2 percent, machinery and mechanical and electrical equipment with 13 percent, means of transport with 12 percent, prepared foods, beverages and tobacco with 11.9 percent, and base metals with 9.8 percent.
EU countries continue to be among Kosovo’s main trading partners. Exports to EU countries amounted to 32.5 million euros, or 31.9 percent of total exports, with Germany, the Netherlands and Italy as the main destinations. At the same time, imports from the EU amounted to 304.9 million euros, or 44.8 percent of total imports, with Germany, Italy and Poland being the main suppliers.
CEFTA countries also remain important trading partners. Exports to this market amounted to 44 million euros, or 43.1 percent of the total, while imports from CEFTA countries were 98.7 million euros, accounting for 14.5 percent of total imports. The main partners were North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro and Serbia.
In markets outside the EU and CEFTA, Switzerland and Turkey were the main destinations for Kosovo's exports, while China and Turkey remained the main sources of imports, according to the KAS report on the country's foreign trade statistics.
