Which region holds the record for the number of pensioners? - Over 641 thousand

The pension scheme is facing increasing pressure as the number of pensioners in Albania is gradually increasing due to the aging population, the phenomenon of emigration and the decline in fertility.

But what does the map of urban and rural pensions in Albania look like and which is the oldest region?

Referring to data from the Social Security Institute for 2025, the number of urban old-age pensioners reaches 562,924, an increase of 37,503 pensioners compared to 2024.

The region with the highest number of pensioners is Tirana with 148,087 pensioners, this is also because it has the highest population in the country, significantly surpassing other regions. Next is Fier Region with 66,911 pensioners, Vlora registers 55,849, followed by Korça Region with 52,142 pensioners, Durrës Region with 52,148 and Elbasan with 45,439 pensioners.

The region with the lowest number of urban pensioners is Kukës with only 9,086 elderly individuals enjoying financial benefits.

As for old-age pensions in the village, the total number at the end of 2025 reached 78,161 from 82,146, decreasing by 3,985 pensioners in one year.

The region with the highest number is again Tirana with 12,658 pensioners who benefit from financial support, followed by Fier Region with 10,731 pensioners and then Elbasan Region with 9,273 pensioners.

Even when it comes to rural pensions, the regions with the fewest beneficiaries are Gjirokastra with 3,362 and Kukës with 2,503 pensioners.

Meanwhile, the average monthly pension in the city has reached 20,123 lek per month and in the countryside 12,313 lek per month.
