Private universities, the "paradise" of foreign students - Shaqiri: The greatest interest from Indians. The social impact remains to be seen

In addition to being a market in need of unskilled workers from abroad, Albania is becoming an increasingly preferred destination for foreigners to study.
Klodjan Shaqiri, who works with the recruitment of these students, indicates that this comes as a need for private universities, as the current number of high school graduates is insufficient to fill the market.
"Currently, Albania, for a certain need of its own, is looking for students from abroad. The number of graduates in our education system has decreased. It is the private universities that are in need. In addition to Albanian graduates, for several years they have been looking for resources coming from other countries. Albania is not in the best position of recognition, it is being recognized. In the last 3 years, Albania has been recognized as a destination for international studies. India is looking for this market more. They are very interested in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, computer science, or AI. They are not very interested in programs like engineering and architecture.
"The reason they come is that they are close to Europe geographically and the prices are reasonable, as well as the monthly expenses. We try to bring in quality students ," says Shaqiri.
But will these students stay in the Albanian job market?
"The social impact will be seen in the coming years. Within universities, they must be ready for post-studies, if they are to be ready to adapt to what are the needs that differ from current requirements. If Albania is taking unqualified employees to meet the needs, universities are going further, preparing individuals professionally to be part of the market. It remains to be seen whether the market will accept them.
"It will be difficult to socialize, will they be tempted by other markets? Or will they try the European market, it could also be a springboard ," says the expert.
Shaqiri emphasizes that the state also plays an important role in recruiting students.
