Albania takes important step on the path to the EU, negotiations on the first three chapters for accession are closed

The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States of the European Union in Brussels today approved the EU Common Position on the provisional closure of Albania's accession negotiations for Chapter 25 "Science and Research", Chapter 26 "Education and Culture" and Chapter 30 "External Relations".
This decision represents a clear political assessment of Albania's sustainable progress in European reforms and transformation and in the accession negotiation process.
The approval by the COREPER Standing Committee affirms the concrete results of the reforms undertaken over the years, the advanced level of approximation of laws with those of the European Union, and the commitment of Albanian institutions to advancing the European Agenda Albania 2030.
The closing of Chapter 25 “Science and Research” evaluates Albania's work and achievements to strengthen the ecosystem of scientific research and innovation for development and to deepen integration into the European Research Area.
The closing of Chapter 26 "Education and Culture" evaluates Albania's work and achievements in modernizing educational policies, oriented towards the European Education Area.
The closing of Chapter 30 "Foreign Relations" evaluates the work and achievements, with Albania's strategic line of action "reliable partner of the European Union".
The Intergovernmental Conference of July 14, 2026 in Brussels marks the provisional closure of the accession negotiations of 3 chapters, taking Albania three steps forward towards the strategic objective of full membership in the European Union within this decade.
The decision also constitutes a strong political signal of the European Union's support for Albania's progress on its European path.
