''13th salary, common practice in EU countries'' - Minister

The Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, has stated that the practice of the 13th salary exists in European Union countries and is not a new idea, responding to criticism from AAK deputies. According to him, the 13th salary is applied in several countries such as Italy, Austria, Germany, France, etc., although it is not a legal obligation, it is given as a custom every year, and in some cases even the 14th salary.

"Although it is not legally mandatory, it is customary to pay the 13th salary at the end of the year, and in some cases even the 14th, for each year, in countries such as Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, France and so on. So it is not that we are inventing something, this practice exists in the countries of the European Union, towards which we are aspiring," said Murati.

Murati said that during December of last year, 70 million euros were allocated as a one-time payment for families and pensioners.

"70 million euros in December last year were given as a one-time payment, so for all families with children or pensioners. So all families have been beneficiaries. Pensioners have received an additional 100 euros at the end of the year, and also each child and each family that has had children, for each child has received an additional 100 euros. Now every year, 200 million euros are given for child allowances and for allowances for mothers on maternity leave," he added.
