8.9 billion more lek for healthcare - Investments in medicines, hospital services and social support

The budget of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for 2026 is increased by 8.9 billion lek compared to the initial forecast.
According to the ministry, this constitutes the largest increase in the budget of this institution. A significant part of the additional funds will go to financing oncology drugs, with an increase of 3 billion lek, with the aim of guaranteeing access to more innovative and effective therapies for patients with oncological diseases.
The increased budget will also support the salary increase in the healthcare system, which was implemented in January 2026, as well as the continuation of salary increases for Emergency Service personnel across the country.
In the area of social welfare, the child disability payment is expected to be doubled, which is expected to directly benefit 10,240 children. The funds will also enable the recognition of social security and health insurance contributions for 14,657 caregivers of people with disabilities.
According to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the budget increase will also go towards investments in infrastructure and medical equipment, with the aim of standardizing and modernizing hospital and primary healthcare services across the country.
In the previously approved draft budget for 2026, the budget of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare was projected at around 82 billion lek. With the addition of 8.9 billion lek, the total budget for 2026 reaches around 90.9 billion lek.
