Albania takes the lead of the 'Global Agritourism Network'/ Important moment, the country at the head of the largest agritourism network

Albania has marked important achievements in the development of international agritourism, taking over for the first time the leadership of the Global Agritourism Network (GAN), the most important international organization that promotes cooperation and sustainable development of this sector.
The decision was made during the International Agritourism Conference, organised by Scottish Agritourism and GAN, which was attended by around 550 delegates from 55 countries around the world. This made the event one of the most important global agritourism forums.
In this international forum, Albania not only participated, but was also entrusted with the leadership of the global network. This development demonstrates the growing appreciation for our country's experience, potential and contribution in this field, creating new opportunities for farmers, rural enterprises and local development.
Prof. Shpresim Domi was elected as the Head of the Global Agrotourism Network, in recognition of his many years of commitment and contribution to the development of agritourism, the promotion of sustainable models of rural development and the strengthening of international cooperation in this sector. Prof. Domi has been one of the most committed voices in support of this category and agritourism entrepreneurs, continuously contributing to increasing their visibility and promoting the potential that this sector has for the rural economy.
This constitutes an important moment not only for Albanian agritourism, but also for the way Albania is presented in the international arena.
From a participating country, Albania now takes a leading role in defining the vision and priorities of global agritourism development.
Agritourism is treated as a high priority sector. Most central and local level strategies have considered agritourism important for agriculture and rural diversification.
The regions that are most promising in combining agriculture with tourist attractions are Korça, Berat, Gjirokastra, Vlora, Shkodra, Kukësi, Dibra, etc. This position of Albania in agritourism according to international best practices also promises acceleration of reforms, bringing sustainable development.
Agritourism is essential because it boosts the local economy by creating jobs, stops the depopulation of villages, promotes local products, and offers a unique, healthy experience in harmony with nature.
