January-May, over 424 thousand visitors to cultural sites - Minister Gonxha: Revenues increase by 7.3%

Albanian cultural heritage continues to attract an increasing number of visitors. The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, announced that during the period January-May 2026, cultural heritage institutions and centers across the country welcomed a total of 424 thousand 82 domestic and foreign visitors.
According to published figures, national museums registered 143,086 visitors, demonstrating the growing interest in the country's history, art and cultural identity. Meanwhile, archaeological parks were the most frequented destinations, with 188,437 visitors, while forts and cultural monuments attracted 91,559 visitors during the first five months of the year.
The figures show a significant increase in interest in Albanian cultural assets. Compared to the same period in 2023, visitor numbers have increased by 95.71%, while the income generated by these institutions has increased even more, by 147.44%.
Even compared to last year, the trend remains positive. The number of visitors has increased by 9.9%, while revenues have increased by 7.3%, confirming the sustained interest of the local public and foreign tourists in Albanian cultural destinations.
According to Minister Gonxhja, cultural heritage not only represents the history and identity of the nation, but also a source of energy, national pride and a powerful magnet that is attracting more and more visitors from Albania and around the world every year.
The continuous increase in visitor numbers to museums, archaeological parks, castles and cultural monuments proves that the country's historical and cultural assets are gaining an increasingly important role on the regional and international tourist map.
