Police strengthen control at beaches and tourist ports - Lamallari: Drones and technology for monitoring the coast

Security on beaches, at border points and in the most frequented tourist destinations will be the focus of the State Police during the 2026 summer season. The new measures were presented in Durrës, where the Minister of Internal Affairs, Besfort Lamallari, stated that the increase in the number of visitors brings new opportunities for the economy, but also more responsibility for the institutions that guarantee order and security.
"A safe country is not built with words, but with a lot of work and dedication and with people who wake up first and go to bed last. I am talking about the State Police, which has the main burden in these months with a high influx of travelers and gatherings in tourist areas."
During 2025, the Maritime Police Unit and the Border Police have come to the aid of 231 citizens and 80 vessels that were in difficulty. In the same period, over 5,600 vessels have been checked and drivers who have violated the rules and endangered the safety of vacationers have been punished. For this season, operational capacities will be strengthened with specialized vehicles, trained personnel and aerial monitoring.
"35 watercraft, trained personnel, intensive patrols along the entire coastline and aerial monitoring with drones will be in place to ensure the safety of vacationers."
Meanwhile, the Border Police will use new technologies and a direct connection to the TIMS system, with the aim of facilitating procedures for yachts, sailboats and other vessels entering Albanian territory. According to the Ministry of Interior, the objective is to guarantee a tourist season with higher security standards, both for Albanian citizens and foreign visitors.
