Express mail packages from abroad are halved—Volume has dropped by 51% during 2022!
The end of the COVID-19 Pandemic during the summer months has brought the immediate halving of express packages from outside the borders and vice versa. According to the official data of AKEP, the volume has decreased by 51% during this summer, when only 2,435 packages were sent through the international express service, compared to more than 5,000 express packages sent during the second quarter of 2021.
The decline is the same as compared to the first quarter of this year, when the number of packages sent through the international express service was 4,992. This service also recorded a decline in deliveries within the country, but to a lesser extent. From 168,882 packages in the summer of 2021, 140,469 were registered in the second quarter of this year, with a decrease of about 17%.
In terms of postal services in general, the Albanian Post and other providers received and sent 7,248,503 postal objects in the second quarter of 2022, an increase from previous years. AKEP reports an increase in the volume of services in Q2_2022 compared to Q1_2022, both for the Albanian Post and for postal service providers. We also have a decrease in the total number of postal facilities compared to the same period a year ago.
Also, an increase in the total item universal postal service is seen in T2_2022 compared to T1_2022, and we also have an increase in this item compared to the same period a year ago.
The entities equipped by AKEP with “General Authorization for the Provision of Postal Services” are currently 39, where Posta Shqiptare sh.a. occupies the dominant position.
