The dairy processing sector in Albania marked positive developments during 2025. According to data, the total amount of milk collected by all processing entities reached 101 thousand tons, recording an increase of 6.9% compared to 2024.
Of the entire amount of milk collected, about 15 thousand tons were used for the production of milk for human consumption, while the vast majority went to the production of various dairy by-products, such as cheese, butter and other dairy products.
As for milk intended for consumption, the market is dominated by processed whole milk, which accounts for 88.2% of production. Semi-skimmed milk accounts for 7.4% of the total, while raw milk represents 4%. Skimmed milk has the smallest weight, with only 0.4% of production.
Cheese production also continued its upward trend in 2025. A total of 10,688 tons of cheese were produced, or 1.9% more than the previous year. Within this product group, a significant increase of 9.9% was observed in the production of cheese from cow's milk. In contrast, the production of cheese from sheep's milk marked a decrease of 21.8%, while that from goat's milk decreased by 1.7%.
By hardness category, almost half of the production consisted of soft cheese, which accounted for 48.1% of the total. Semi-hard cheese represented 23.1% of production, fresh products 16.8%, while hard cheese accounted for 12%.
The data on butter production also turned out to be positive. During 2025, 599 tons of butter were produced, of which the vast majority, or 96%, was traditional butter, while only 4% consisted of melted butter. Overall, the data show an expansion of activity in the Albanian milk processing industry, with an increase in the collection of raw materials and the production of some of the main dairy products.
