Over 1.25 million passengers flew from TIA in May/ Wizz Air and Ryanair dominated the Albanian air market

Mother Teresa International Airport has recently released its air traffic statistics for the month of May, showing an increase in air travel activity. According to the data, a total of 7,352 flights were operated during the month, carrying around 1.25 million passengers, reaching 104 destinations and 29 different countries. A total of 26 airlines operated at the airport, expanding travel options for passengers.
The most popular destinations during May were mainly European cities. London and Milan topped the list of most frequented destinations, followed by Rome, Brussels and Bologna, reflecting the high demand for connections to major European hubs.
If we analyze air traffic data, it turns out that the majority of passengers used scheduled flights. During May alone, around 1.24 million passengers were registered on these flights, making up the bulk of air traffic.
Compared to the previous period, the number of passengers has increased by 26%, while the number of aircraft movements has also increased by 19%. This indicates an expansion in demand for air transport and higher activity at the airport. The situation is different for air freight transport. During May, about 234 tons of goods were transported, marking a decrease of 12%.
For the first five months of the year, air traffic at Tirana Airport has reached around 4.5 million passengers, indicating a significant volume of travel since the beginning of the year.
As for the airlines that operate most frequently at Mother Teresa Airport, the market continues to be dominated by low-cost carriers. Wizz Air holds the largest share of flights, with around 53.2% of the total, followed by Ryanair with 28.1%. In third place is Lufthansa, with around 3% of flights.
Meanwhile, charter flights, which are usually associated with organized tourist trips, constitute a smaller part of air activity, with around 1.19% of total flights during May. Overall, May statistics show that Tirana Airport continues to have a high rate of activity, with an increase in the number of passengers and an expansion of air connections with European destinations.
