Commercial informality is “killing” the economy

Commercial informality is considered the worst “disease” for the Albanian economy. In an interview for SCAN TV, the Head of the Tirana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nikolin Jaka, states that the levels of informality in the country are extremely worrying and that the actions have not had any visible effect.
According to Jaka, informality occurs because it is voluntarily allowed by administration employees, even though it severely damages competitiveness and brings disadvantages to regular enterprises in the country.
The head of the Tirana Chamber of Commerce emphasizes that the only way to stop informality is to apply the law.
The anti-informality reform launched in 2022 focused mostly on the under-declaration of wages in some sectors and will continue this year along the same lines, focusing on small businesses.
