Costs and emigration “extinguish” livestock in Albania – Hoxha: Milk production on the wane, consumers “forced” to pay

The increasing costs have caused some breeders to abandon herds of cattle, which has resulted in less raw material for milk processing factories. On the other hand, the unbearable living conditions have shown once again that immigration is an influential factor.

In an interview for SCAN TV, Donjaldo Hoxha, the Executive Director of the Milk Processing Industry, states that this situation is making worse the crisis in this sector and therefore urgent measures have to be taken.

Increased factory costs, on the other hand, have resulted in a 23% increase in the market price of milk products, which appears to have reduced consumption demand.

Hoxha also states that if actions are not taken in time, in the next few months there will be a lack of supply of seasoned products and price increases should be expected again.

This year, the National Scheme promised support for the livestock sector, but by setting disqualifying conditions, it did not have the needed effect on increasing animal breeding and milk production.
